HP PC: For some time to come, we may see an increase in the prices of HP PCs and laptops and a decrease in the memory configuration. This may happen due to global RAM shortage. According to a report, HP CEO Enrique Lores recently addressed the memory shortage and resulting price spikes in an earnings call. In this he told that the company may be forced to increase the prices of its products in the second half of 2026. It is said that Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) have stockpiled enough memory chips to last till then but the situation will change after that.
Customers may see an increase in the prices of HP products in 2026-
The global RAM shortage has affected many sectors like smartphones, PCs and gaming consoles. The consumer electronics sector is in trouble due to a large part of the supply going to the large number of Artificial Intelligence (AI) data centers being built. Earlier, information has come to light that Samsung has increased the prices of memory components by up to 60 percent in three months.
Now, according to a report from PCMag, HP’s CEO has addressed the global RAM shortage and its potential impacts during the company’s Q3 2025 earnings call. Lores said that the prices of DDR5 RAM have increased by more than 200 percent in recent weeks. HP is said to have enough stock to last through the first half of next year but after that OEMs will also start feeling the impact of the shortage.
Fear of impact on company’s PC product margins
HP’s CEO is reported to have said that a sharp rise in RAM prices after May 2026 will impact the company’s PC product margins. As a result, the company will reportedly be forced to include lower memory configurations in its devices and may have to increase prices even then. OEMs may also have to take other measures such as choosing low-cost suppliers, integrating AI-based automation and portfolio redesign.
According to the report, Enrique Lores is said to have said that these will be decided on a case-by-case and country-by-country basis along with category-by-category. This is probably being done because there is a lot of volatility in the market and what effect the increase in memory chip prices will have on different sectors cannot be predicted yet.
