Under Meta’s new policy, general AI chatbots will not be able to be used on WhatsApp Business API from January 15, 2026. Meta has cited the reason for this change as the load on the system and the increasing number of messages. On this policy of Meta, OpenAI said that it wants to continue its service on WhatsApp, but due to the company’s policy this will not be possible. For this, the company is focusing on making this transition easy so that users can save their chat history.
How to save chat history?
ChatGPT users can easily export their AI bots conversations from WhatsApp. However, WhatsApp does not allow directly exporting chats from AI chatbots. OpenAI provides a way to save past chats by linking your WhatsApp number to your ChatGPT account. In this way, after the ChatGPT integration on WhatsApp is over, users can see the history of chats done on WhatsApp in their ChatGPT account.
- For this, first download ChatGPT app. It is available on Android, iOS and desktop.
- Apart from this, you can also use ChatGPT through your web browser on chat.openai.com.
- Create your ChatGPT account (if not already created) and sign in.
- If you already have a ChatGPT account, simply sign in with your existing credentials.
- Link your ChatGPT account to WhatsApp.
- Open ChatGPT’s WhatsApp profile (1-800-ChatGPT).
- Tap the URL in your contact profile to link your account.
- Once linked, your phone number will be linked to your ChatGPT account and your old WhatsApp chats will appear in your ChatGPT history.
