Jio Market Leader: Broadband network research firm OpenSignal said that Jio leads the 5G segment in terms of 5G speed, signal availability and its usage by customers. This report is based on data collected between September 1 and November 30, 2025. It says that moving from 4G to 5G increases download speeds manifold and gives users a more stable and reasonably good experience. Reliance Jio has come out ahead on this scale.

According to the report, during research

  1. The 5G download speed on Jio network was 199.7 megabytes per second (Mbps), which is 11 times more than the 4G download speed.
  2. The 5G speed on Bharti Airtel network was 187.2 Mbps, which is seven times more than 4G.
  3. Whereas the download speed on Vodafone Idea (Vi)’s 5G network was recorded at 138.1 Mbps, which is six times faster than 4G.

According to the report, 5G users across all operators face less interruptions and less performance instability compared to 4G. This makes it clear that the advantage of 5G is not only in maximum speed, but also in providing a more reliable experience for everyday use.

Users remained most connected with Jio’s network.

OpenSignal has introduced a new metric called Time on 5G, which is used to measure how often users with 5G devices are actually connected to the 5G network and in this too the Jio network has won. Jio leads with 68.1 percent 5G availability and its users spend 67.3 percent of their time actively connected to the network. The report attributes this high conversion rate to Jio’s standalone architecture and use of 700 MHz spectrum that provides wide penetration inside homes.

The outcome of the report is that only those operators who can strike a balance between scale and consistency will be successful in the next phase of India’s digital journey. The report also said that telecom operators aim to provide a 5G experience that remains reliably good enough for everyday use.
