The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has approved the voluntary amalgamation of two co-operative banks in Gujarat, according to separate notifications issued on December 12, 2025.

In the first instance, the RBI sanctioned the Scheme of Amalgamation of The Amod Nagric Co-operative Bank Ltd., Amod, with The Bhuj Mercantile Co-operative Bank Ltd., Ahmedabad. The approval was granted under sub-section (4) of Section 44A read with Section 56 of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949. The scheme will come into effect from December 15, 2025.

Following the merger, all branches of The Amod Nagric Co-operative Bank will operate as branches of The Bhuj Mercantile Co-operative Bank from the effective date.

In a separate order, the RBI approved the voluntary amalgamation of Amarnath Co-operative Bank Ltd., Ahmedabad, with The Kalupur Commercial Co-operative Bank Ltd., Ahmedabad, under the same provisions of the Banking Regulation Act.

This scheme will also take effect from December 15, 2025. Upon implementation, all branches of Amarnath Co-operative Bank will function as branches of The Kalupur Commercial Co-operative Bank.

Both amalgamations have received regulatory sanction from the RBI and will be implemented simultaneously from December 15, 2025.
