Hot mountain food has its own pleasure in the chill of winter. In such weather, if Kumaon’s famous dish ‘Palak Kapa’ is served in the plate, then both the heart and body are filled with warmth due to its special taste and nutrition. This recipe is one of the most popular dishes of Kumaon. Palak kapa is cooked with many spices. It is thick and spicy which goes great with boiled rice, roti or paratha. Come, let us know its easy and traditional method?

How to make Palak Kapaa?

  • Kaapa is very easy to make and requires very little ingredients to make it. The method of making this dish is as follows:

  • Wash spinach leaves and chop them finely. (You can also use other green vegetables like mustard leaves, radish leaves or amaranth leaves along with spinach leaves.)

  • Heat mustard oil in a pan and add cumin seeds and dry red chillies. Let them crackle for a few seconds. Add asafoetida and fry for a few more seconds. (You can enhance the taste by adding some garlic, ginger or onion to the tempering.)

  • Add chopped vegetables and fry until they become soft. Sprinkle some rice flour, salt, turmeric powder, red chilli powder and water on the greens and mix well. (You can also add garam masala or coriander powder for more aroma.)

  • Cook on high flame until the rice flour absorbs excess water and the gravy thickens. Garnish with chopped coriander and serve hot.
