NETFLIX: Netflix is removing casting support from smartphones for new Chromecast devices and Google TV streamers. Although Netflix has not officially announced the withdrawal of this feature, but it has given information about this by updating its support page. In the last few days, many users have also noticed the disappearance of the cast icon in their mobile apps and have expressed their displeasure over it on social media platforms. It is worth noting that the casting option on Netflix was available only to users of the non-ad supported tier.
Information given by Netflix on support page
However, the company is now stating on a support page that Netflix no longer supports casting of shows from mobile devices to most TVs and TV-streaming devices. To navigate Netflix, you’ll need to use the remote that came with your TV or TV-streaming device. According to gadgets360, this information was first given by Android Authority, and it seems to be a new development.
Netflix is taking back its casting feature
The streaming facility of Netflix was mostly availed by young users and through this, users were able to stream Netflix directly on TV or laptop through their smartphone. When we wanted to experience this in real terms, it was found that some users are not able to see the cast icon at the top of the home page of the app and some users are able to see it. However, for those who are seeing this cast icon, it may be a temporary situation. Netflix says that users who are using older Chromecast devices and TVs that support Google Cast are still able to cast the app. This is not the case for new Chromecast devices and Google TV streamers.
What is this casting feature?
Casting via Netflix’s mobile app is a convenient feature that allows users to stream to smart TVs and other streaming devices without downloading and installing the app directly. This saves users from having to install apps on a smart TV when they are low on storage and also lets them control navigation and searches through the smartphone instead of the remote, making the process much easier.
