Mumbai: A 63-year-old taxi driver died after his taxi plunged into the sea at Bhaucha Dhakka (Ferry Wharf) in South Mumbai on Thursday night.The deceased driver, Jaiprakash Sharma, a Mumbadevi resident, drove his taxi into an area where construction work for a new jetty is ongoing, said a police officer. “He drove the taxi towards an area where the construction work is going on,” said an officer. Sharma was alone in the taxi at the time of the accident.The incident took place at 9:35pm on Thursday. “Some fishermen who were on a nearby anchored fishing boat saw it and jumped into the water to save the driver. They brought Sharma out of the water, and he was taken to JJ Hospital, where the doctors declared him brought dead,” said the officer. The Yellow Gate police have registered an accidental death case. Sharma’s daughter claimed his body. Using a crane, the authorities removed the taxi from the water.
