Mumbai: A man, assumed to be in his 30s, was found dead outside Ghatkopar station early on Thursday with severe head injuries. Police probe showed an excavator had hit him, but the driver fled without taking him to a doctor. GRP filed a case of negligence against the driver, Bharat Yadav, and are looking for him.Soon after midnight, bystanders alerted GRP about an unknown man lying injured outside Ghatkopar East station, near the old ticket booking hall. Police immediately moved him to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. There was no identification on him. After going through CCTV footage and quizzing witnesses, police learnt that the victim had been sleeping, but Yadav failed to see him and started the excavator. After hitting him, Yadav panicked and fled. He went to his Bhandup home, where he confided in his wife. Thereafter, he switched off his phone and left the house. Police said the excavator was involved in ongoing work near the old ticket booking hall. Officials are questioning Yadav’s co-workers. The victim’s photos have been sent to all police stations to identify him. tnn
