To make salty barley, you will need one cup of barley, one spoon of ghee or oil, one medium size finely chopped onion, one small finely chopped tomato, one finely chopped green chilli, mustard seeds, 6 curry leaves, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, salt, 2 cups of water and green coriander. If you want, you can also use finely chopped capsicum, grated carrot, some peas and lemon juice.
Salted Barley Recipe- Heat one spoon ghee or oil in a pan and fry one cup barley till it turns light brown. Take out the roasted barley in a plate. Now add one spoon of ghee in the pan, let the mustard seeds crackle and then add curry leaves and green chillies in the pan. After this, fry finely chopped onion until it turns golden. Now cook tomatoes, carrots, peas and capsicum in the same pan for about 2 minutes.
It is very easy to make- Now you have to add turmeric, red chilli and salt in the pan and mix everything well. Add roasted barley and fry this mixture lightly. After this, you have to pour 2 cups of water in the pan and let the barley cook for 6-8 minutes on medium flame. Don’t forget to keep stirring the barley every now and then. When the water dries up and the barley becomes soft, you can turn off the gas.
Enjoy for breakfast/snacks- To enhance the taste of barley, you can also add green coriander and lemon juice to it. Serve hot salted barley and enjoy the taste.
