Abidur Chaudhary was working as an industrial designer at Apple and it was he who designed the iPhone Air. Now he has left Apple to work in an Artificial Intelligence startup and this news has created a stir in the tech industry because Abidur Chaudhary was working as a very important and strong member of Apple’s design team. Abidur Chaudhry had been working with Apple for more than 6 years and played a key role in developing and setting the direction for the hardware and design of the iPhone Air.
Abidur Chowdhury spent six years on Apple’s industrial design team
Just months after Apple made headlines for its ultra-thin iPhone Air and the designer who helped make it happen, this designer has quietly left the company. Abidur Chowdhury, the industrial designer featured prominently in Apple’s launch video, has completely parted ways with Apple. Abidur Chaudhry spent six years on Apple’s industrial design team and became one of the most talked-about faces during the launch of the iPhone Air earlier this year. But shortly after the actual delivery of the phone to customers, he left Apple and joined an AI startup.
iPhone Air 2 still in development
Abidur Chaudhary leaving Apple also becomes big news because iPhone Air 2 is still in the development stage and is expected to debut in the year 2027. After the seriousness with which Abidur Chaudhary had contributed in the development of iPhone Air and the company had rewarded him well for it, there was every expectation that he would play a big role in the development of iPhone Air 2 also. However, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the reason behind Chaudhary’s departure is not related to the sale of iPhone Air and it has been his personal decision.
Big changes in Apple’s design branch from 2019
It is worth noting that since Ive’s departure in 2019, there have been major changes in Apple’s design branch. Many experienced members have left the company and now the team consists mostly of new people. Apple is said to have faced more turmoil this year, including the departure of COO Jeff Williams and the departure of several people from Alan Dye’s UI team. Following Williams’ departure, Apple said design teams would now report directly to CEO Tim Cook.
