ChatGPT Group Chat: A few weeks after introducing group chat in ChatGPT and keeping it limited to a few users, OpenAI has now made it available to all users. In a blog post, the AI giant revealed that the pilot project is receiving positive initial feedback, so ChatGPT’s group chat feature will be available to all logged-in users. This means that whether you’re using Go, Plus, Pro, or free weights, you’ll finally be able to try out the group chat feature.
Group chat in ChatGPT lets users come together to make plans or work on projects. Users can have a single conversation and give prompts to the AI. Reactions are auto-generated by GPT5.1 which selects the ideal model to respond based on each signal. Note that group chats with OpenAI models are separate from your private conversations.
Group chat is not yet available in all countries
However, it may take some time to reach you as it is being rolled out globally in a phased manner and is not yet available in all countries. Despite the global rollout, it will be available to all ChatGPT users in Japan, New Zealand, South Korea, and Taiwan. OpenAI said that as more people start using it, we will continue to improve this experience. This pilot project is a small first step towards shared experiences in ChatGPT, and we hope feedback from early users will inform how we expand into more areas and what ChatGPT plans are.
How to use ChatGPT group chat
Don’t forget to update your ChatGPT app to the latest weights. Starting a group chat on ChatGPT is very easy after updating the app. Simply log in and open a new chat as usual. In the upper right side corner you will see a new people icon, tap on it to add other people to the chat.
When you first create a group, ChatGPT will immediately ask for your name, username, and a photo so everyone in the chat knows who you are. All your group conversations will then appear in a newly labeled section in the sidebar for easy access.
Additionally, when you add someone to an existing chat, ChatGPT automatically creates a separate group version of that conversation. This way your basic one-on-one chat remains untouched.
