The Department of Telecommunications has written in its post, ‘The phone rang, picked up… but there is no sound there? This is not a normal call, but a way of scammers to check whether your number is active or not. Do not call back such calls and report immediately on Sanchar Sathi app. A little understanding, protection from big fraud, stay connected to the phone, stay away from Silent Call.

What is Silent Call?

DoT told in its video that silent call is a screening method for scammers, in which they check whether your number is active or not. They monitor the background of the target user while picking up the call, his method of picking up the call, the time taken to disconnect the call etc. and then keep him in the target list for cyber fraud. After receiving such calls, messages or calls of different types will be received on the user’s number indicating that the bank account has been suspended, the credit card has been blocked or the like.

How to avoid?

Scammers call or message users posing as bank executives, officers or any government employee. Users knowingly or unknowingly get trapped in their trap and then they get cheated. The Department of Telecommunications has asked users to use the Sanchar Sathi app or website. Report such numbers by going to Sanchar Saathi and never make return calls on silent calling numbers.
