Before Diwali, incidents of fraud in the name of online offers are also coming to light. During festive seasons like Diwali, cyber criminals target people through fake SMS, e-mails etc. People easily fall into their trap in the name of offers and discounts. The government has also launched many initiatives to protect people from cyber crime. Instructions have also been issued to people to avoid this. If you also want to avoid fraud with online offers on the occasion of Diwali, then keep some things in mind.
Keep these things in mind
- Avoid using public Wi-Fi.
- Do not open any link coming from any unknown number.
- Opt for cash-on-delivery (COD) when shopping online.
- Check any offer by visiting the official website of the company.
- Do not download e-cards or files sent via WhatsApp, SMS or e-mail.
- Do not share your personal and banking details through calls or messages.
Apart from all this, people should use the official website while shopping online. Avoid opening any suspicious link and definitely check the offer. Apart from this, users should check the URL of the websites. Websites with security certificates always start with https://. In these websites ‘s’ means secure. Not only this, one should avoid clicking on any discount offer link shared on social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram or X.

- You can install antivirus or mobile security apps in your phone, which can help you prevent scams.
- Apart from this, you should use two-factor authentication i.e. 2FA for payment apps in the phone.
- Set transaction limits in UPI or other apps so that you do not incur much loss.
