In the winter season, along with our skin, our hair also suffers a lot. In this season, dryness, dandruff, frizz and hair fall increases a lot. But do you know that most of the hair problems in winter are not just due to the weather. Rather, these happen because of those small mistakes made by us which we do without thinking. So let us know which hair mistakes should we avoid repeating in this cold season?

Avoid making these hair related mistakes in winter

don’t wash your hair too much

Do not wash your hair too much in winter. We sweat less in cold weather, so washing our hair too much removes its natural oils. And once those oils are released, dryness, breakage, and dandruff quickly follow. In winter, most people should only wash their hair twice a week. If your scalp is not oily, do not wash your hair just out of habit.

Don’t forget to apply conditioner

Many people skip conditioner in winter thinking that it will make hair sticky or flat. But, it is the conditioner that helps lock in the moisture and reduce frizz. Use conditioner after every wash, focusing not on the scalp, but on the lengths and ends of the hair.

Do not stop oiling completely

Many people stop oiling in the winter because it’s cold, lazy, or just don’t feel like dealing with sticky hair. Winter air is dry and indoor heaters or blowers make it worse. In such a situation, hair needs nutrition more than ever. Not oiling is the quickest way to dull, weak hair. But applying too much oil is also not right. Applying oil once or twice a week is enough.

Do not leave oil in hair for too long

In winter, leaving oil on your hair for too long can do more harm than good. Cold weather slows absorption, so oil remains on the scalp, creating dust and clogging pores instead of nourishing the roots.

Do not wash hair with hot water

It feels great to take bath with hot water in winter. But hot water is harmful for your scalp and hair. It dries out the scalp, increases dandruff, and makes hair more prone to breakage. Use lukewarm water instead. And if possible, wash quickly with lukewarm water. It helps seal the cuticles and makes hair much softer

Don’t ignore dandruff

Dandruff is very common in winter. Cold air and pollution together spoil the scalp. Many people ignore it until it turns into itching, scaling and hair fall. If you notice dandruff starting, take action quickly. Use anti-dandruff shampoo once or twice a week.

Don’t overuse heat styling tools

Straighteners, curlers, and blow dryers already damage hair. In winter, the damage doubles as the hair is already dry and brittle. Daily heat styling can cause split ends, breakage, and excessive dryness. If you must style your hair, use a heat protectant and keep the temperature low. And give your hair regular heat-free days. Winters are actually the perfect time to embrace natural textures, buns, braids and simple hairstyles.
