AirDrop support for Quick Share coming soon on Google Pixel 9 series
Android Authority collaborated with AssembleDebug to conduct a deep analysis of the latest Android Canary build. While analyzing the update, the publication identified new system files added by Google that are reportedly required by Quick Share to send files from iPhone to Pixel 9 models. The report states that these files were not present in the previous firmware of the same Pixel 9 series phones. However, this feature may not be available in the non-flagship Google Pixel 9a.
In November, Google had talked about expanding the scope of this feature.
In November, this feature was available only for the Google Pixel 10 series, but Google had said at that time that it was working towards bringing this feature to more Android devices and improving the experience. Google has also said that this will not affect security. Apple’s system uses protected sharing channels and typically prompts a popup before accepting a file from a device. So if you are already using AirDrop or Quick Share then this will not affect your privacy model.
