Thane: As many as four people sustained injuries after 14 vehicles, including cars and auto-rickshaws travelling on the wrong side of Ghodbunder Road triggered a chain collision with a cement-laden heavy vehicle near the Gaimukh check naka early Friday morning.An FIR was registered, and preliminary investigations confirmed the cars and auto-rickshaws were driven dangerously against traffic flow. The drivers were booked under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Motor Vehicles Act. The truck driver reportedly fled the scene. Further investigation is underway.The accident occurred around 7 am, when at least nine vehicles heading towards Mira Road and Borivli, allegedly entered the wrong carriageway. At the same time, a heavy truck loaded with around 25 tonnes of cement was descending towards Thane when it rammed into the oncoming vehicles. Police said five vehicles left the spot without any intimation.Police officials said the impact caused extensive damage to the vehicles, while oil leakage from the wreckage posed further hazard. Teams from Kasarvadavali police station, traffic police, the civic disaster management cell and the fire brigade rushed to the spot. Spilled oil was covered with soil to prevent secondary accidents. The four injured persons were shifted to private hospitals for treatment, while several others with minor injuries received first aid at nearby medical facilities.The accident brought traffic on both carriageways of Ghodbunder Road to a standstill for over two hours, resulting in long queues stretching several kilometres in both directions. Normal traffic movement was restored by late morning after the damaged vehicles were removed.
