Indian Energy Exchange (IEX) reported a 2.8% year-on-year rise in electricity traded volumes to 11.44 billion units (BU) in December 2025, even as volumes in the key Day-Ahead Market (DAM) declined during the month.

According to the exchange’s monthly update, the Day-Ahead Market recorded volumes of 5,899 million units (MU) in December 2025, marking a 11.6% decline compared with the same month last year.

In contrast, the Real-Time Electricity Market (RTM) continued to show strong momentum, with traded volumes rising 20.5% year-on-year to 3,833 MU during the month.

The Day-Ahead Contingency and Term-Ahead Market (TAM) segment, including the High-Price Term-Ahead Market (HPTAM), saw a sharp increase in activity. Total volumes in the segment stood at 931 MU in December 2025, registering a 87% jump over December 2024.

Volumes in the IEX Green Market, which comprises the Green Day-Ahead Market (G-DAM) and Green Term-Ahead Market, stood at 777 MU during December 2025, marginally lower by 0.5% year-on-year. The weighted average price in the Green Day-Ahead Market for the month was ₹4.21 per unit.

Meanwhile, activity in the Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) Market remained subdued. A total of 7.7 lakh RECs were traded during sessions held on December 10 and December 31, 2025, at clearing prices of ₹359 per REC and ₹345 per REC, respectively. The traded REC volume in December 2025 declined 53.7% year-on-year.

IEX said the next REC trading sessions are scheduled to be held on January 14 and January 28, 2026.

Shares of Indian Energy Exchange ended marginally higher on Monday, January 5, by 0.05% at ₹134.43 on the NSE.
