New rules for mobile users
Only a few days are left for 2025 to end. This year, the government had introduced many rules for mobile users, which included minimum recharge, calling only plans etc. New rules are going to be implemented for mobile users next year i.e. 2026. The Department of Telecommunications is bringing new rules to curb fake calls and messages. These rules will free users from fake calls. In 2026, rules like SIM binding to CNAP will be implemented for telecom users.
What is SIM binding rule?
The SIM binding rule has been notified by the Department of Telecommunications to prevent fraud through social media platforms. This rule will come into effect at the beginning of the year. SIM binding works in the same way as a SIM card is required in the phone to log in to banking apps. Similarly, the number used for WhatsApp, Telegram or other social media apps is also necessary to be in the mobile phone. In such a situation, it will help in preventing fraud through these apps. WhatsApp of any number cannot be used in any phone whose SIM card is not in that device.
Many social media companies have opposed this. If this rule is implemented, users using apps like WhatsApp or Telegram from international numbers will have to face problems. His WhatsApp account cannot be used in India. WhatsApp or other instant messaging apps will require an India based SIM card, so that users can install it in their mobile phones. This rule will benefit the users and fake calls coming from international numbers will be stopped.
CNAP
CNAP i.e. Caller Name Presentation Service will be fully implemented next year. At present, Jio, Airtel and Vodafone Idea have started its trial in many states and telecom circles. It can be implemented in the entire country in the first half of next year. In this, the name of the caller will appear on the screen, the name in which the SIM has been purchased i.e. the name in the KYC document will appear on the screen when the user calls. In this way, information about whose name the SIM card has been issued will be available and fraud can be prevented.
