Toyota Kirloskar Motor is partnering with Maharashtra’s Directorate of Vocational Education

MUMBAI: In a move aimed at boosting employability in the automotive sector, Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) on Tuesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Directorate of Vocational Education and Training (DVET) to establish advanced training labs across 45 government Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) in Maharashtra. The signing took place at Mantralaya in the presence of Maharashtra’s skill development minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha.Under the partnership, TKM will set up fully equipped laboratories for the Light Motor Vehicle (LMV) technician programme and provide specialised instructor training. The initiative is expected to benefit nearly 8,000 ITI students over the next five years, creating a pipeline of industry-ready technicians. The MoU was formalised between Vikram Gulati, senior vice-president at Toyota Kirloskar, and Madhavi Sardeshmukh, director of DVET. According to Gulati, work on the first phase will begin within two months, with 13 labs scheduled to be operational by March 2026. The remaining centres will be rolled out in three additional phases.Lodha said the collaboration marks a step towards strengthening Maharashtra’s skilling ecosystem. “Industry partnerships help maximise the potential of existing infrastructure while ensuring that students receive globally relevant training,” he said, adding that more employment-focused agreements are expected soon.
