New Zealand cricketer Devon Conway has confirmed that he has been released by the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) ahead of IPL 2026 retention announcement. He thanked all the fans for their support over the last three years.
Devon Conway has confirmed that he has been released by the Chennai Super Kings ahead of the retention announcement for IPL 2026, scheduled on Saturday, November 15. The New Zealand played for the franchise for three seasons after making his IPL debut in 2022.
Confirming the development on his X account, Conway took to X to thank the CSK fans for all the support during his stint with the team. “Thank you to all loyal fans of CSK for amazing 3 years support,” Conway wrote on X.
Conway made his IPL debut in 2022 with CSK when he scored 252 runs in seven innings at an average of 42 and a strike rate of 145.66 with three fifties. However, his blockbuster season came in IPL 2023 when he amassed 672 runs in 15 innings at an average of 51.69 and a strike rate of almost 140 with as many as six fifties to his credit. He was also the third-highest run-scorer of the season, with Shubman Gill winning the orange cap.
After missing the entire IPL 2024, Conway returned to CSK as the franchise picked him in the mega auction for Rs 6.25 crore. However, his performance was not up to the mark, mustering only 156 runs in six innings at an average of 26 and a strike rate of 131.09. Conway will now be looking for a new team as CSK have released him, and for the first time, if picked, he will play for any other team in IPL.
What are CSK’s other likely releases?
Chennai Super Kings didn’t have a great IPL 2025 and for the same reason, they are keen on shuffling their squad ahead of the auction. Hence, apart from Conway, they are likely to release Rahul Tripathi, Deepak Hooda, Rachin Ravindra, Vijay Shankar, and Jamie Overton, among others. Interestingly, they have also traded (not officially yet) Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran to the Rajasthan Royals in a direct swap with Sanju Samson. This makes it clear that the CSK will be a new look team in IPL 2026 depending on their picks in the auction.
