The concept of electric blanket is still new in India but according to its buyers, it is a good means of keeping warm in winter. Always read the user manual before purchasing it. You will be more comfortable if you buy an electric blanket with multiple levels of temperature control and auto shut-off facility. Blankets with auto shut-off will automatically shut off after a set amount of time, reducing the risk of fire or overheating. If you buy a blanket without this feature then it can be risky.
The wiring system of the blanket must be safe and able to prevent overheating and this can be said first of all by the safety certification. While buying an electric blanket, check whether it has BIS certification, ISI mark or any kind of safety standard. The wiring inside should be thick and strong so that it does not bend or break during use. You should think that it will work in a way like an electric device which will be around you while you sleep, so do not compromise on the safety certification front.
Electric blanket consumes less electricity as compared to room heater. If you are worried about electricity bill then you can choose low wattage option. While purchasing a blanket, definitely check the quality of wiring and fabric in it. Check the fabric carefully to ensure that it is light, breathable and comfortable on the skin.
Many electric blankets come with removable controllers, which simply means you can remove them and gently wash the blanket. However, never fold the blanket after use as this may damage the wire.
