Navi Mumbai: Rabale police have arrested a six men who had cheated a Kandivli man of Rs 3 lakh by giving him paper bundles instead of US dollars at discounted price.Balkrushna Sawant, senior inspector of Rabale informed that, on Oct 23, an FIR of cheating was registered by Kandivli resident Mohammad Siddique (33) who stated that on Oct 18, he was contacted by a person identified as Rafiq, who claimed that he has a material supply shop and gave the reference of a local resident, who Siddique knew. Rafiq claimed that he has 35,000 US dollars that was found hidden in the sofa at his brother-in-law’s house and the US dollars are with his aunt residing at Ghansoli. He offered to sell all US dollars worth around Rs 31 lakh at a discounted price of Rs 5 lakh. After negotiation, the deal was settled for Rs 3 lakh.Rafiq called Siddique to Ghansoli near D-Mart on Oct 20. Around 8 am, Siddique reached the meeting spot near Tulsi Tower. He was given a US dollar note for checking authenticity. In the evening, they met again after Siddique verfied that the US dollar was original. He then handed over the Rs 3 lakh cash to Rafiq and his aide and they gave him a cloth bundle claiming that it contained the US dollars. However, before Siddique could check the bundle, a man came and asked what deal was going on. Hence, Rafiq and his aide escaped with the cash. Thereafter, Siddique unwrapped the cloth and found a bundle of blank papers instead of US dollars. he registered an FIR on Oct 23.Inspector Sawant said, “After meticulous probe for 5 days, the six acccused were arrested from Mumbra. They have been identified as Mohammad Shaikh alias Rafiq (35), Alamgir Shaikh(27), Khosmuddin Shaikh (23), Rinku Shaikh (26), Rohim Shaikh (34) and Ajizur Shaikh (37), all hailing from Jharkhand. With their arrest three more cheating cases registered at Rabale police station have been detected and the total cheating amount is around Rs 15 lakhs. The gang was wanted in similar case registered at Nehru Nagar police station, Kurla.”
