changes in IT rules

The government has made big and important changes in IT rules. This change in the rules has been made by the IT Ministry to bring transparency in the methods of removing content on the Internet. According to the new rules, now it will be mandatory to take permission from senior officials to remove any content from the social media platform and correct and complete information will have to be given about removing the content. According to the new rules, now no content can be removed on social media without the permission of a senior official.

Senior officers will take the decision

According to the PTI report, as per the provisions given in 3(1)(d) of the IT Rules, the content of social media will be reviewed by government secretary level officials every month. Officers below this level will not have the right to review and remove social media content. This new rule has been brought to bring transparency in removing social media content. Under the new rule, no objectionable or illegal content can be removed on social media without a court order or instructions from senior officials.

Giving information about this, IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said that under Rule 3(1)9d) of IT, the accountability of the government has been increased in passing such orders. Any such order can be passed only by senior officers of the government, whether they are at Secretary, Joint Secretary or DIG level or above. The IT Ministry has ordered that this rule has been brought to manage online content in a better way. Under this rule, now only senior officials can order removal of online content from social media platforms.

Content will not be removed without reason

The officer will have to give a clear reason for removing or changing the content of social media. Apart from this, permission of a senior officer is required to change or remove the URL and electronic location of any content and a valid reason will also have to be given for this.

The IT Ministry has made it clear that this rule has been brought to create a better balance between the rights of users and the work of the government. The government wants that orders to remove content should not be passed without any valid reason. There will be transparency between its users and social media platforms and no order will be passed casually. The government has also made it clear that if any other necessary changes are required in the IT Act 2000, they will be made.
