Airtel
DoT has imposed a huge fine of Rs 2.14 lakh on Airtel. The Telecom Department has come down heavily on the telecom company with the second highest number of users in the country. This fine has been imposed on the company due to violation of subscriber norms in Karnataka Telecom Circle. This information has been received in a recent regulatory filing. The Department of Telecommunications has found the telecom company violating the rules of Call License Advance Subscriber Verification.
SIM issued without verification
According to PTI report, Bharti Airtel has been accused of adding subscribers in Karnataka Telecom Circle by ignoring the verification rules. Under the license agreement rules, the company had to complete the necessary verification process before adding customers to its network. The Department of Telecommunications has issued verification norms for this. The company has violated rules in the audit conducted by DoT in August 2025.
The Department of Telecommunications periodically audits the CAF i.e. Customer Application Form filled by telecom companies to add new customers. The information filled in the CAF audit of Bharti Airtel was not verified properly. According to the filing, the Department of Telecommunications has issued a notice to Airtel in Karnataka Telecom Circle, imposing a fine of Rs 2.14 lakh. Airtel has accepted the notice of the Department of Telecommunications and is ready to pay the fine.
Quality of Service Norms implemented
However, this is not the first time that telecom companies have been fined for violating rules. Such fines have been imposed on telecom companies in the past also. To prevent cyber fraud, the Department of Telecommunications has tightened the norms of subscriber verification so that SIM cards cannot be issued on the basis of false documents.
Guidelines for this have already been issued to telecom companies. Its telecom regulator i.e. TRAI has also implemented the Quality of Service Norms from October 1, in which the service of telecom companies will be audited so that the users do not have to face problems related to network service.
