The government has prepared to use new technology to monitor old vehicles in this city adjacent to Delhi. ANPR cameras will be installed at more than 850 petrol pumps in the city, which will provide information about old vehicles to the government. Apart from this, the government has also planned to install cameras in the surrounding districts. 10 year old diesel and 15 year old petrol vehicles will be identified through ANPR cameras.

The Haryana government has prepared to install ANPR cameras at 851 petrol pumps in the districts of Gurugram, Faridabad, Jhajjar and Sonipat adjacent to the capital Delhi. In the first phase, these new technology cameras will be installed in these four districts, which will monitor the vehicles taking fuel at the petrol pumps. These cameras will be installed at the entry point of the petrol pump. If any diesel vehicle is more than 10 years old and petrol vehicle is more than 15 years old, then they will not be given fuel.

What is ANPR camera?

ANPR i.e. Automatic Number Plate Reader camera can capture the photo of the number plate of vehicles and get information about that vehicle. The photos captured from the ANPR camera will provide complete information about the vehicles concerned with the help of the software. These ANPR cameras will use optical character recognition technology, which will convert the number plate image into digital text. Because of this, vehicles coming and going to the petrol pump can be tracked.

Vehicle information captured using this technology will be used for traffic management, law enforcement and other purposes. The software installed in the ANPR camera will identify the alphanumeric text engraved on the number plate. The identified number plates will be matched with the transport department’s database, which provides details of the vehicle owner and registration address and the manufacturing and registration date of the vehicle. According to the report, the Transport Department is waiting for approval from the state government for this. After this the work of the first phase will be started.
