Today’s modern lifestyle has become much more convenient for us. Modern lifestyle has made our way of living much easier. Internet, social media, smartphones, online work, have empowered us a lot, but this convenient life is having a negative impact on our mental health. Digital media is the biggest reason:

  • Comparison with others: In modern lifestyle, every person is pursuing some goal or the other. Some people are making a lot of progress and are also sharing those things on social media, so when someone sees those things, it increases the tension. The tendency to compare others on social media also affects self-esteem and increases stress.
  • digital dependency: Our digital dependence has increased a lot. Smartphones, social media and constant notifications keep our brains constantly active. This reduces the ability to concentrate and the mind does not get time for peace.

  • Active on social media: Always being updated and active on social media has become a part of modern lifestyle. The habit of always being online never gives rest to the mind. This increases mental fatigue and stress.

These other reasons also become the cause of depression:

  • lack of sleep: Lack of sleep, in modern lifestyle we work till late night or use mobile. When the body does not get enough sleep, hormonal imbalance occurs, leading to mood swings, irritability and anxiety.

  • Bad diet: In modern lifestyle, we often give more importance to junk food and caffeine, this also increases the level of stress hormones in the body, while everything has become one step away from us, due to this our physical activity has also reduced. When we are less physically active, the happy hormone decreases in our body. The mind starts feeling sad. This can cause diseases like depression.

  • social isolation: Distance and social isolation are also a big reason in relationships. Nowadays people are digitally connected, but emotionally lonely more than ever. Loneliness gradually increases mental stress.

How to prevent depression?

To avoid depression, it is important that we bring small changes in our lifestyle. Have a good diet. The effect of good eating habits is also visible on our health. Exercise regularly. Walk for at least half an hour daily. Get adequate sleep of at least 8 to 9 hours a day. Most importantly, include digital detox in your lifestyle.
