MIRA BHAYANDAR: The Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) has taken a significant step toward environmental conservation. An urban forest developed using the Japanese Miyawaki method at the Uttan solid waste management site (Dumping Ground) was inaugurated by Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Radhabinod A. Sharma (IAS). Under this initiative, the corporation aims to plant 50,000 trees across the city to help reduce air pollution, control foul odour, and expand the city’s green cover. At the Uttan project site alone, 8,600 trees have been planted, representing 49 native species. The site features a drip irrigation system, and soil preparation included red soil, manure, neem, cocopeat, and vermicompost mixture to ensure healthy tree growth. Commissioner Sharma remarked, “For such green initiatives to succeed, collaboration between the public, private, and government sectors (PPG model) is crucial. Planting trees is important, but their care and preservation are equally vital.” This initiative marks a major step toward making Mira-Bhayandar a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable city.
