Starlink Internet Service
There is still doubt about Startlink’s satellite internet service. Users have been waiting for the satellite broadband service of Elon Musk’s company for a long time. Telecom regulator (TRAI) has said a big thing on starting satellite internet service in India. According to the PTI report, the agency said that now there is no pending recommendation regarding satellite spectrum. This shows that green signal has been received from TRAI regarding satellite service.
Recently, Telecom Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia had said regarding satellite internet service in India that recommendations regarding spectrum prices are yet to be finalized. Only after this the satellite service can be started. In Asia’s biggest tech event India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2025, the Telecom Minister had issued his statement regarding satellite internet service.
TRAI said a big thing
TRAI has sent its recommendations to DoT i.e. Department of Telecommunications regarding spectrum allocation. There is a problem regarding spectrum allocation, due to which satellite service has not been started in India. In the past too, many discussions have been held between service providers and the Department of Telecommunications regarding spectrum allocation. Telecom service providers were demanding that the allocation of spectrum for satellite service should be like 5G. At the same time, the Department of Telecommunications is in favor of allocating satellite spectrum in an administrative manner.
Let us tell you that in May this year, TRAI had given detailed recommendations to the Department of Telecommunications for satellite internet service in India. During this period, Elon Musk’s company Starlink was also given clearance to start satellite internet service in India. Apart from Airtel’s OneWeb, Jio and Starlink, Amazon is also in the race for satellite internet service in India.
What did the Communications Minister say?
During the India Mobile Congress 2025, Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia had said that the launch of satellite broadband service in India is awaited due to two important developments. These include pending recommendations from service providers regarding roll out plans and spectrum pricing. Regarding the delay in service launch, the Union Minister said that it depends on the players how quickly they can execute their strategy. This is one reason why TRAI has to finalize it.
