In a blow for the Indian cricket team, star wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant is set to miss the upcoming home Test series against the West Indies, starting from October 2, due to his fractured left foot, ESPNCricinfo reported.
Pant suffered an injury to his left foot during the fourth Test match of the five-match series against England in July 2025. Pant is currently at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru and has been undergoing strength and conditioning.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to name India’s squad for the two-match Test series against the Windies in the coming days. With Pant set to miss out, Dhruv Jurel will be the top wicketkeeping option who shall make the India Playing XI.
N Jagadeesan, who was called the injury cover for Pant for the fifth Test, is another contender and is likely to be in the squad as the second wicketkeeping option.
Both Jurel and Jagadeesan are part of India A’s squad for the two unofficial Test matches against Australia A. Jurel slammed 140 from 197 balls in the only innings India A batted in the first unofficial Test in Lucknow when the hosts had hit 531/7d in reply to Australia A’s 532/6d. Jagadeesan opened the innings and made 64 from 113 deliveries.
Talking about Pant, the wicketkeeper batter was hit on his foot while batting in the first innings of the Manchester Test. He grimaced in pain but came out to bat despite the fracture. Pant was ruled out of the fifth Test as Jagadeesan came into the squad for him.
Talking about the upcoming Test series, India and West Indies will lock horns in the first Test from October 2 onwards in Ahmedabad. The second match will take place in New Delhi from October 10-14. The series will fall under the World Test Championship.
